Chris Armata
As President of E. Armata, Inc., Chris Armata oversees the general administration, as well as the trend and focus of the company. He believes in forward thinking and technology, and never sitting still. Chris places a high value on his company’s most significant assets – their integrity, their people, and their experience – along with the simple approach of always looking ahead. These attributes are what Chris feels will continue to propel E. Armata successfully into the future.
Chris started his industry experience at home, having never been given anything without earning it, and learning everything about the business from his father, Nick. From the age of 14, Chris worked with his father in the summers, starting from the bottom, sweeping warehouses and unloading freight cars when they arrived.
After attending college, Chris started in the company as a warehouseman and worked his way from Checker to Foreman, later becoming a salesman at 23, which was a highlight for Chris. During these fun and challenging times, Chris enjoyed working alongside the other family members. As a salesman, he was responsible for selling western vegetables at night, while his father, Nick, would buy during the day. The challenge of building the vegetable business with his father was a career highlight, as Chris was learning from the best.
E. Armata has evolved and grown tremendously over time, with Chris and his brother, Paul, acting as sole owners since 1997. Chris is proud to have a strong team that he feels is one of the best in the business; with people who fit the company and excel in the roles they fill.
Paul Armata
As Vice President of E. Armata, Inc., Paul Armata handles purchasing and monitors sales for the Western Vegetable Division. Paul also oversees other warehouse functions, such as managing the crews, warehouse operations, trucking, and overall sales. As part of the process, he also supervises customer receivables. Paul enjoys interacting with customers and believes that having good customer relations is the key to continued growth.
Paul grew up with the family business and has worked at E. Armata for 35 years. He started as a warehouseman; offloading trucks and making sidewalk deliveries in the summers and on weekends. He became a full-time salesman at the age of 19, initially working nights selling vegetables; a position he held for 17 years.
Since 1997, Paul and his brother, Chris, have been sole owners of the company. Paul is proud of the family business, its integrity and reputation along with their hardworking employees, and a legacy of high-quality E. Armata products.
Who Is E.Armata Inc?
E. Armata is a family-run fruit and produce wholesaler in the Hunts Point Market that has been in business for over 100 years. With a modest start in Manhattan at the Washington Street Market, E. Armata is now one of the largest wholesalers operating in Hunts Point and is proud to now be in the 4th generation stage. E. Armata takes great pride in managing the company with integrity and the highest quality product available for all our customers – be they a large retail customer, institutional supplier, or small grocers who visit the Hunts Point Market for quality produce.
Over the last century, E. Armata has prospered as a leader among produce distributors in the tri-state area. Our brand prides itself on having a family tradition of loyalty to customers and partnerships with farmers and growers that span generations. We work with the most recognizable brands of fresh produce in the industry, as well as offering our own E. Armata label.
E. Armata is in involved in many charitable organizations; however, they have taken a special interest in the Louis J. Acompora Memorial Foundation. The Foundation was started in 2000, after the tragic death of Louis Acompora. On March 25, 2000, in his first high school game, tragedy struck. With his parents on the sidelines, he blocked what appeared to be a routine shot with his chest. He took a few steps and collapsed on the field. The coaches and trainers rushed out, and after realizing Louis was not breathing, they began to administer CPR. The paramedics arrived almost 15 minutes after Louis’ collapse. They attempted defibrillation, but were too late. Louis passed away. He was 14 years old.
Louis’ parents, John and Karen Acompora, came to realize his death could have been prevented if the school had owned a portable Automated External Defibrillator (AED). An AED revives cardiac arrest victims with an electric shock to the chest. After Louis died, the Acompora family, along with friends like the Armata family, started a grassroots campaign to raise awareness among schools and other public institutions about the importance of implementing Automated External Defibrillators (AED) programs. A simple device that would have saved Louis’ life. Chris and Paul Armata embraced the Foundation, and have offered financial support and have donated fruit to all of the events the Foundation has hosted. The Armata Family strongly believes in the mission of the Foundation, “Taking our children out of Harm’s Way” and have encouraged the produce industry to help the Foundation.
The Louis J. Acompora Memorial Foundation is committed to improving sports safety, with a special focus on placing automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) in all schools and youth athletic organizations. We are dedicated to educating and sharing information on commotio cordisand sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). We support Public Access Defibrillation (PAD) programs and will investigate methods of developing and improving chest protection for all athletes.
